Mulching Season Is Here!

There are many reasons mulching is important besides the curb appeal aspect. Here are some reasons below.

  1. Soil Moisture Retention: Mulch helps to retain soil moisture by slowing down evaporation from the soil surface. This can be especially important during hot and dry weather conditions.

  2. Weed Suppression: Mulch helps to suppress weeds by blocking out sunlight and preventing weed seeds from germinating. This can reduce the need for hand weeding or the use of herbicides.

  3. Temperature Regulation: Mulch can help to regulate soil temperature by insulating the soil from extreme heat or cold. This can help to protect plant roots from stress and damage.

  4. Nutrient Enrichment: Organic mulches can gradually break down and release nutrients into the soil, providing a slow-release source of nutrients for plants.

  5. Erosion Control: Mulch helps to prevent soil erosion by reducing the impact of heavy rain or wind on the soil surface. This can be especially important on sloping garden beds or in areas with heavy rainfall.

  6. Soil Structure Improvement: Over time, organic mulches can help to improve soil structure by increasing soil organic matter content, improving soil aeration, and encouraging the growth of beneficial microorganisms.

Types of mulches:

Brown Mulch, Sweet Peet (Organic), Cedar, Hemlock, & Dark Brown

Overall, applying mulch to your garden beds can provide numerous benefits that can help to promote healthy plant growth, reduce maintenance needs, and improve the long-term health of your soil.
